ABC Transporters are exporters only?

According to "Textbook of Biochemistry with Clinical Correlations" 6th edition, Tomas M. Delvin, page 479:

Eukaryotes do not possess any importers. Exporters or effluxers, which are both present in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, function as pumps that extrude toxins and drugs out of the cell

Title

Either the title of this article should be changed to simply "ATP-binding cassette transporter" or it should be split into two articles, one of which would be named ATP-binding cassette transporter". In my opinion the former is more appropriate, since the article mostly discusses structure, function, etc. of the actual protein rather than the gene coding for it. If anyone agrees, please do so. Otherwise I will make the change in a week or so unless someone objects. Aurimas 06:03, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal - Merge|ATP-binding cassette family

I start discussion regarding my merge proposal. I am puzzled by the parallel existence of those two articles.

I think it is merely relict of the past. According to this talk page - this article had been originally renamed from ATP-binding cassette transporter genes at that time the other article might had been about the proteins. Nevertheless it had been neglectec, until last month it had been rewritten.

By now both articles have some unique parts worth of saving, but there is IMO no need for two separate articles... unless the other one might be rewritten into sub-article for ABC classification or something.

ATP-binding cassette transporter is much better, however it is almost entirely focused on human ABCs and have less on classification of ABCs..

Support merger. However some cleanup of both articles is needed before the merger. I have started on this. Until recently, ATP-binding cassette family was little more than a stub, but was recently significantly expanded as part of a student project. Boghog (talk) 13:09, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would do the merge myself, but I am not familiar enough with the subject to say what should be kept from each article, and under what name the merged article should be. Issue with Citations?

Hi there,

I was trying to input the section "Plant ABCB transporters" and in the process some weired error showed up between my paragraph, and "Sav1866" title. When I go to edit, it looks fine, however,, on the page it looks as if it's all one big WRONG paragraph. Can you please restore the page to start "Sav1866" title followed by the paragraph that should start about bacteria. Thank you.
